Sporty frames with fashion flavor are the optical industry’s answer for a seamless transition from work to working out.
The “athleisure” phenomenon has been embraced by the apparel industry for several seasons, and this sporty, casual look stems from a desire for healthier lifestyles and everyday comfort. For days when an after-work activity may entail an exercise class or coaching a youth sports game, patients will want durable yet on-trend eyewear. To meet this need, eyecare professionals need look no further than these ruggedly smart ophthalmics.
The latest athlete to get in the frame game is none other than the NBA’s lovable large-scale personality, Shaquille O’Neal, who has joined forces with Zyloware Eyewear for a spring 2016 launch. Offering style, performance and comfort, the collection for men ages 18 to 50 includes a variety of shapes in full-rimmed and semi-rimless styles in a range of color accents and authentic styling using high-quality materials. Design elements include contrasting pops of color, sporty temple tips, lightweight and adjustable library temples, and extended-fit sizing that meets the needs of men seeking additional headspace and longer temples.
“Shaquille O’Neal Eyewear is an athleisure-based line highlighting sporty yet fashionable eyewear at an affordable price point with sizing to fit every man, whether average-sized or Shaq-sized!,” enthused James Shyer, co-CEO/COO. “Shaquille O’Neal is a perfect addition to the Zyloware family, and now is an exciting time to launch eyewear as the Shaq phenomenon is impacting so many new fashion categories,” stated co-CEO/president Christopher Shyer.
SLEEK AND FUNCTIONAL
Targeted towards the modern, tech-savvy male, the Flexon Pivotal Force series from Marchon Eyewear has been designed with a hinge mechanism that mimics the movement of a lever as it pivots around the axis point and interlocks with the open endpiece construction. Inspired by fundamental, simple and compound machines in the design process, the integration of the endpiece and temple creates fluid movement and a sleek aesthetic. Three new styles in both full-rimmed and semi-rimless models feature a direct soldered Flexon bridge and new TR-90 temples that allow for a variety of colors.
Oakley introduces three ophthalmic models for 2016: the Milestone 3.0, Splinter and Reversal. Milestone 3.0 is ultra-thin yet robust in a square shape with sports temples. Splinter incorporates a square shape and design inspired by Oakley’s Silver sunglass equipped with sports temples. Both are constructed with Nan0Matter, an innovative industrial design of thin cross sections and no-slip-grip Unobtainium earsocks to keep the frames in place. Reversal brings style and personality to Rx eyewear with a fashionable take on the classic statement frame. “The entire collection is designed for those who live an active lifestyle and are looking for versatile frames that combine style with performance features,” said Will Conk, category product manager, Rx Frames. “Oakley frames provide all day comfort and durability with optimized fit technology.”
YOUNGER AT HEART
The Champion collection from L’Amy America also boasts a number of proprietary materials that maintain a high degree of comfort. Frames are made with PowerLite injection-molded plastic, a super lightweight, and extra durable TR90 material and C-Tech Alloy, a corrosion-resistant, featherweight blend of metals with superior tensile strength.
The new comfort-driven styles from Skechers by Marcolin deliver trend-right designs such as two-toned rubber tips, colorfully etched details and retro silhouettes. Fashion and form combine in SE3175, which is constructed from ULTEM, a lightweight, durable and flexible TR90 resin. Sleek temples are detailed by the brand’s printed “S” logo and equipped with rubber grip tips in two-tone colorations.
