FLYING LEAP
The 20 teams of the VintageAirRally (vintagerally.com) Crete2Cape flying rally across Africa have been outfitted with Randolph Engineering sun protection for their 35 days journeying across 11 countries. Starting on November 12th, the pilots and crew members will follow in the footsteps of the pioneering flights in the 1920s and travel along the Nile from Cairo until they reach the finish line in Cape Town, Africa. TIME FOR TANZANIA
Luxottica Retail N.A. has partnered with the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA) to create a OneSight clinic for 25 optometry students (onesight.org/apply) in Tanzania from May 5 to 13, 2017. During the course of the one-week clinic, OD students will work under the supervision of licensed ODs performing comprehensive eye exams. They will also help support a core team of Luxottica volunteers in the frame

ALWAYS ECCENTRIC
The Paris-based Alain Mikli brand collaborated with fashion designer Jeremy Scott for two bold sunglass models-the Asymmetric and noir Mikli-that debuted at Scott’s show during New York Fashion Week this past fall. The Asymmetric black-and-white Damier pattern was featured on models and as a print on some apparel pieces, while the noir Mikli, which also comes in rouge and turquoise, was inspired by a vintage frame from Scott’s personal archives and will be included in Alain Mikli’s summer 2017 collection. GIVING IT THE COLLEGE TRY The first installment of the Safilo x Parsons Design Thesis Competition has kicked off for 2016/2017. The program provides six thesis-level BFA students-selected by VP creative director Alessandro Marcer and chief design product officer Vladimiro Baldin-the opportunity to design eyewear as a major component of their final work and see their prototyped designs come to fruition.
