MaximEyes EHR is updated to comply with MACRA for 2017 and beyond.

The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) is a new Quality Payment Program (QPP) that alters how physicians are paid by the federal government to deliver care. Beginning in January 2017, unless you are new to Medicare or bill very low Medicare volume, you cannot opt out-and if you aren’t submitting MACRA performance data, you may risk losing up to 9% of your Medicare reimbursements. So, it is reasonable to look at ways to get assistance. Here are some features from electronic health record (EHR) companies that can assist you with compliance.

Software integrated for MACRA: Compulink’s Eyecare Advantage software currently includes all the tools that will enable ECPs to handle MACRA. This includes practice management, OneTab EHR, Optical and patient engagement tools. All of these run on a single database platform to enable the complex reporting requirements of MACRA.

Mobile compatibility: supports tablets and iPad

Customization: fully customizable including not only the EHR but also every module within the product and the database

Direct reporting and coding: Compulink’s Eyecare Advantage is currently ONC certified and provides ECPs with reporting necessary to attest to Meaningful Use. Advantage also supports integration and data transmission to the American Optometric Association’s MORE Registry (see box below, right). In addition, to ensure proper billing, CPT and ICD-10 codes are recommended within the program.

Support and training: Flexible training options are available including online through Compulink University and personalized web-based and onsite training. U.S.-based support is guaranteed within a one-hour response time.

Software integrated for MACRA: MaximEyes EHR is ONC 2014 Edition Certified for quality reporting and EHR incentive programs, including Meaningful Use, Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS), Value-Based Payment Modifiers (VBM), Merit-Based Incentive Program (MIPS) and ePrescribe. They are ready to support the newest MACRA reporting requirements and have already implemented new features to support increased outcomes.

AOA MORE is the private registry project initiated by the AOA Board of Trustees in response to the growing emphasis on quality reporting and measurements through registries as part of healthcare. The secure database systematically (and anonymously) aggregates patient data from multiple EHR systems and facilitates secondary uses of the data, such as best practices and treatment outcomes. Free to AOA members, participants can review data analysis for their own practice and compare it to others nationwide. All of the EHRs participating in this article are participants for AOA MORE.

Mobile compatibility: notebooks and tablets, including the Apple iPad or Android devices using a Remote Desktop Application

Customization: 30+ pre-built exam templates that can be personalized to create a unique program that works for each practice

Direct reporting and coding: Direct reporting of Quality Measures to CMS has been available since the 2015 reporting year, and it is updated to comply with MACRA for 2017 and beyond. Reporting via registries is also available through the AOA MORE and AAO IRIS. The built-in ICD-10 Selection Tool assists with the selection of codes and modifiers based on patient exam data entered.

Support and training: MaximEyes automatically sends updates to customers electronically. Customers can also request an update if they have declined an update in the past. Support personnel are thoroughly trained prior to any update. Customers receive training documents and release notes on the changes and new features. First Insight also hosts complimentary webinars and recorded webinars, which are available to watch 24/7 on the “For Customers” website in addition to regional training and onsite training at ECPs’ offices. Support is offered Monday-Friday (8:00am — 8:00pm ET) and Saturday (9:00am — 3:00pm ET).

Software integrated for MACRA: The company updated its software to collect data required for MIPS as well as built an integration with AOA MORE. This allows for direct reporting from the software.

Mobile compatibility: iPad compatible

Direct reporting and coding: EHR customers are offered a best-in-class alternative to AOA MORE with built-in PQRS and Meaningful Use special registries. These registries submit directly to CMS, allow users to monitor their documentation in real-time, provide flexibility to make corrections as they go to avoid penalties and fulfill the Quality and Advancing Care Information measures. In addition, options are given in the software to ensure proper billing coding.

Software integrated for MACRA: RevolutionEHR does not require its customers to engage with any external software systems as they have the software’s own quality reporting service, RevAspire. The RevAspire team partners with RevolutionEHR practices to remove the administrative burden associated with quality reporting programs, guide performance and front any audit response that might come the doctor’s way.

Mobile compatibility: The myRev mobile app provides simple and secure access to the doctor’s schedule, patient information and messaging from smartphones or tablets. myRev is fully HIPAA-compliant and utilizes the same encrypted protocols implemented for RevolutionEHR.

Customization: Exam templates can be set up to fit the needs of the practice. There are many prebuilt exam forms/templates. A doctor can use those provided, make slight changes or start from scratch.

Direct reporting and coding: Since 2014, RevolutionEHR has enabled its customers to report electronically. RevAspire leverages this ability to allow practices to offload the administrative task of data submission to CMS. RevolutionEHR has a coding engine that will let a doctor know the medical level of CPT code that has been met with the documentation done during the exam.

Support and training: Each member of the RevolutionEHR customer support team is based in the U.S. or Canada and has experience working in an eyecare practice, allowing them to understand and assist customers with everyday occurrences in the practice. Also, RevolutionEHR assigns new customers an onboarding specialist that works with the practice to implement the software. Its RevAspire team is made up of doctors and former CMS regional extension center staffers who stay abreast of the regulatory changes doctors need to be aware of. For that reason, RevolutionEHR customers have constant and immediate access to this information via quality reporting discussion forums, webinars and e-mail support.
