Mazzucchelli’s M49 material offers wearers a high-quality, environmentally friendly frame option.
Known for its eco- and socially conscious products, Drift Eyewear has been using M49 since 2012. The company prides itself on giving consideration to how it sources and produces its eyewear, as well as what will become of the eyewear in the long term. “We were one of the first in the world-first in the U.S.-to use it,” says Chris Mantz, founder and designer, Drift Eyewear. “Prior to M49, we didn’t have a viable option for producing boutique-quality optical frames in a responsible manner. Mazzucchelli provided that option and we give them a ton of credit for creating it.”
M49 is used for both the BIZ8 style from the OKO by OKO Paris and Jason from MYMUSE by OKO Paris. The company plans to keep manufacturing eco-friendly styles in the future as it continues its longstanding relationship with Mazzucchelli. It believes that the goal of maintaining both classic elegance and current trends within its styling is not challenged by the use of M49. In fact, in many cases, it’s more easily achieved.
New to the M49 scene, Zeal recently made a splash with a frame that starts as 100% U.S. grown cotton and is then converted into M49. “After harvesting the plant from farms all across the U.S., we ship it to Italy’s renowned Mazzuccchelli family,” says Mike Lewis, digital marketing manager, Zeal.
The MoleCube Collection from Nico Design’s Derapage collection now features M49, with styles for women and men alike. “The new Derapage Molecube 412 is the perfect matching between two eco-friendly, patented projects: M49 acetate and the Molecube screwless hinge, says Giovanni Vitaloni, CEO, Nico Design. With colors including blue, red, amber, and green (all against a transparent base), eyeshapes in this collection boast oval, rectangular, and cat eye. Both ophthalmics and suns are included in the MoleCube line. The push for sustainability in eyewear design is strong, and it’s here to stay. M49 is a major component of this movement and the industry remains excited about the continued innovations of Mazzucchelli 1849.
