The culturally and musically rich world of Carlos Santana finds a home with Inspecs USA.
100 million records sold worldwide. 10 Grammy Awards. Three Latin Grammy Awards. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honor. Ranked 15th on Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” The number of Carlos Santana’s accolades goes on and on. And last month, the global music icon reunited with his band and dropped his 23rd album, Santana IV. Santana the man is equally committed to social activism; since 1998, his Milagro Foundation has been serving underserved and vulnerable children around the world through grants in the areas of the arts, health and education.
More recently, Santana’s lifestyle brand has been translated to top-selling shoes, handbags and headwear. Vance Wright, president of Inspecs USA, has been following the musician for years. “I’ve always been a huge fan of Santana, and I would buy [the records]for the artwork as much as the music inside,” Wright said. “Two years ago we were looking for a Latino collection and my eyes lit up [seeing the Santana brand imagery]. It seemed like it would translate incredibly well to eyewear.” This season, it comes to fruition.
Four album covers, Corázon, Abraxas, Shaman and Supernatural, create the artistic basis for the ophthalmic collections in metal and acetate for women, CARLOS by Carlos Santana, and men, SANTANA by Carlos Santana. Joyous colors, mystical artwork and guitar-inspired details (stripes harken the look of strings, a guitar-pick-inspired hinge) deliver a distinctively Santana flair in a highly wearable package because the graphics appear only on the inside temples. There are 10 styles for women that run the gamut from earthy brown and tortoise to feminine shades of purple and pink. For men, there are also 10 styles incorporating not only the album-cover artwork but also current trends such as wood-detailed temples and matte finishes in grays and blues.
These striking and distinctive frames will add plenty of spice to your boards, according to Wright, who also said that a portion of sales from the eyewear will be donated to the Milagro Foundation. “There are celebrities that people can really embrace, and I think Santana is one of them.”
