Social media hits, creativity, hurricane relief efforts and lots of eye-catching product for every budget ruled the annual September show.

The official number for VEW social media impressions was nearly 12 million, an all-time high for an expo, according to Melissa Ashley, senior vice president of Reed Exhibitions…Congratulations to Article One for “Most Creative Booth Design” and Kuusoft Software Corp. for “Best Use of Technology,” who both scored $1,000 in credits to use toward sponsorship options at future Vision Expo shows. The winning attendees who voted were Paul Becker, Associated Eye Care; Jenny Besaw, Dr. Jill’s Optical Shoppe and Mychan Mai, Omni Eyecare, and they each received a $500 AmEx gift card. A round of applause goes to the Vision Choice Award winners: Lunette USA, Inc., for first place; FGX International, for second place; Miraflex, for third place. Showing its support for hurricanes Harvey and Irma relief efforts, Vision Expo encouraged attendees to contribute to the Optometry’s Fund for Disaster Relief (OFDR), a program of Optometry Cares – The AOA Foundation. Additionally, Daytona Beach, FL- based Costa contributed 100% of the profits from orders placed during the show to the Red Cross. The Costa team also rallied support for area first responders by assembling hundreds of gear packs for workers on the scene. More than 20,000 T-shirts were sent to area shelters for those in need of basic supplies…Shifting gears to celebrations, the OWA commemorated its 20th anniversary with a cocktail reception and inducted new president Tiara Claxton of Safilo USA; VSP and Marchon Eyewear hosted a rooftop bash at new hot spot Linq; Marcolin’s special fête took place at Tao Beach; Bad Habits, The Official Eye Docs of Rock performed at the Hard Rock Hotel, and the money raised from sales of the band’s 30th anniversary T-shirt went to the Vision Source Foundation which supports private practices that suffer a tragic loss to their business.
