There’s a lot more to Daytona, FL, than the Daytona International Speedway and beaches where people can drive their cars on the sand. It’s also the headquarters of Costa, a sunglass company that recently hosted a media event for the optical trade press.

Started by a few fisherfolk in 1983 who decided the world needed better sunglasses, Costa has grown into a $100-million company that produces all its sunwear by hand at two onsite labs (one for plano and another for Rx). The media got a firsthand look at the inside workings of frame and lens manufacturing, guided by John Rogers, VP, Operations; Ed Sowers, Rx lab manager; and other Costa executives.

Renato Cappuccitti, Director of Rx Sales, talked about the lens technology and the importance of Costa’s partnership with ECPs. “We customize solutions for our ECPs in order to enhance the selling process,” said Cappuccitti. Terri Hannah, Sr. Marketing Manager, discussed Costa’s brand value: “Performance is at the center of every aspect of Costa.” The company is also actively involved in conservations efforts-water-based, of course!

The day ended with a sunset cruise that brought all the knowledge and expertise of Costa right back to where it all began-on the water.
